What is "Global Democracy"?

Global democracy advocates removing democracies at a nation-state level and replacing them with a single global system where the interests of all citizens are represented in a single global forum.

According to most models, global democracy would work like a liberal democracy where citizens would elect representatives on a national or regional basis to a global assembly where decisions would be made on their behalf.

Advocates of such a system argue that global democracy is needed because many of the issues that affect citizens in the 21st century are global in nature.
